CALL FOR POSTERS

This year, Self-Help Counties Coalition’s (SHCC) 2022 Focus on the Future Conference will be adding a new opportunity for conference attendees. A limited number of Poster Sessions will be selected for display and discussion at the 2022 meeting of our transportation professionals. Entries are encouraged from agencies, companies, and organizations with a focus on transportation. Non-profit organizations are encouraged to submit to bring awareness to their platforms.

Selections will be made by Wednesday, October 26, and applicants will be notified via email. 

TECHNICAL TOUR OPTIONS

Tour #1: OC Streetcar in Downtown Santa Ana: Modern Meets Historic

See OCTA’s OC Streetcar project come to life in downtown Santa Ana. Join us for a walking tour of Santa Ana’s historic downtown where the OC Streetcar’s track and platforms are being constructed. This segment is part of a 4.15-mile route for California’s first modern streetcar providing last mile service from the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center to Harbor Boulevard/Westminster Avenue in Garden Grove. The tour will include a brief presentation and tour along six blocks with refreshments at one of downtown’s most popular restaurants.

Fee:  $83 (Charging $92)

Tour #2: Interstate 405 Improvement Project

Join a bus tour of the $2.08 billion I-405 Improvement Project, which is one of the most heavily traveled stretches of highway in the nation. This design-build project includes building the 405 Express Lanes and improving more than 18 bridges, 60 ramps and 100 walls. Construction began in 2018 and is expected to be completed in late 2023. This 16-mile segment is critical to accommodate expected employment, population, and housing growth throughout the region. Built in the 1960s, the freeway carries between 257,000 and 370,000 vehicles per day depending on location.

Tour #3: Newport Back Bay Nature Walk

Enjoy a nature walk on the Back Bay Loop Trail in Newport Beach. The trail is located along the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve and Ecological Reserve and features 1,000 acres of preserved and pristine wetlands. Along with checking out the amazing views, attendees will learn about Orange County’s extensive bike network, active transportation programs and infrastructure, and OCTA’s 1,300 acres of protected open space preserves acquired via OCTA’s Environmental Mitigation Program.

Tour #4: Transit Focus – Keeping Orange County Moving

Take a trip on an OCTA zero-emission fuel cell electric bus and tour OCTA’s Hydrogen Fueling Facility, the largest transit-operated hydrogen fueling station in the nation. As part of the plan to convert the OC Bus fleet to 100 percent zero-emission technology by 2040, OCTA has invested in 10 plug-in battery-electric buses and an equal number of hydrogen fuel-cell electric buses. OCTA is currently pursuing a pilot of up to 20 battery-powered Paratransit vehicles and has deployed 49 all-electric cars to the Operator Relief Vehicles (ORV) fleet.  Attendees will learn about OCTA’s zero-emission bus program and various other transit programs throughout Orange County, including the limited stop Bravo lines and on-demand OC Flex service pilot program.
